The School of Physical Education, Xi’an University of Architecture & Technology is mainly responsible for public physical education instruction, campus sports activities organization, athletic training and competitions,, as well as professional education in sports-related disciplines. The School evolved from the Physical Education Teaching and Research Section (1956-1995) to the Physical Education Teaching Department (1995-2002), then to the Department of Physical Education (2002-2017), before being officially renamed the School of Physical Education in 2018. The Social Sports Instruction and Management program, established in 2002, is designated as a National First-class Program under the "Double Ten Thousand Plan." With a Master’s degree authorization in Sports Science, it has produced over 1,000 graduates to date.
The School has 86 faculty and staff members, including 71 full-time teachers, among whom are 5 professors, 28 associate professors, 4 internationally certified referees, and 16 nationally certified referees. With over 320 enrolled students (260 undergraduates and more than 60 postgraduates), the School is equipped with 2 research platforms, 4 laboratories, and approximately 138,000 square meters of well-equipped sports venues with comprehensive facilities.
In 1958, the School was awarded the honorary title of "National Red Flag Institute for Physical Education" by Marshal He Long. It has maintained a leading position in competitive sports among provincial universities and achieved a breakthrough in medal tally at international competitions in 2024. The School has led more than 200 scientific research projects and has been awarded numerous provincial-level teaching and ideological and political achievement awards.
