School of Metallurgical Engineering

The School of Metallurgical Engineering at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, originated from the Department of Mining and Metallurgy established in 1958. As the only state-established institution in Northwest China during the 1950s offering a comprehensive range of programs in metallurgical science and metal material processing, it has played a significant role in the development of China’s metallurgical education and research. The School of Metallurgical Engineering was formally founded in 1996 and has since evolved into a high-level research-oriented academic institution.

The School currently has 104 full-time faculty members, including 35 professors and 39 associate professors. Over 66% of the faculty members hold senior professional titles, and more than 97% possess doctoral degrees. The faculty includes nationally distinguished scholars, such as recipients of the State Council Special Government Allowance, leaders of the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program,” awardees of major national talent initiatives, and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. More than 30 faculty members have been supported by provincial-level talent programs, reflecting strong academic strength and research capacity.

The School offers doctoral programs in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, along with a professional doctoral program in Resources and Environment. Its graduate education covers all undergraduate disciplines. It provides four undergraduate programs: Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Forming and Control Engineering, Metal Materials Engineering, and New Energy Materials and Devices. Among them, Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Forming and Control Engineering are recognized as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs. The School currently enrolls more than 1,540 undergraduates, over 550 master’s students, and more than 130 doctoral students.

The School has developed distinctive academic strengths characterized by balanced development of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, integration of smelting and processing, and emphasis on green development and resource recycling. In recent years, faculty members have led more than 60 national-level research projects, including major projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program. The School has received over 20 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

With 17 advanced teaching and research platforms, the School is committed to cultivating high-level innovative talent and advancing cutting-edge research, striving to become a leading center for metallurgical education and research in Central and Western China with growing international influence.
