News Network of XAUAT— On May 30, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) organized a science outreach event at Xi’an High School of Shaanxi Province as part of the “Academicians on Campus” program of the 2026 National Science and Technology Activities Week, held in celebration of the upcoming National Science and Technology Workers’ Day.

Professor Liu Jiaping, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Green Building, and Honorary Dean of the School of Architecture at XAUAT, was invited to deliver a popular science lecture entitled “Architecture of Antarctic and Polar Research Stations.”
The event was attended by Chen Rong, Vice President of XAUAT; Tao Yi, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Green Building; Kong Deliang, Deputy Dean of the Undergraduate School and Director of the Admissions Office; Xue Dangpeng, Principal of Xi’an High School of Shaanxi Province; as well as more than 500 teachers and students.

During the lecture, Professor Liu drew upon his own scientific research experience and began with an introduction to the extreme environmental conditions of Antarctica. He systematically explained the design concepts, key technologies, and scientific stories behind polar research station architecture. Through vivid examples, he demonstrated the technological achievements and innovative wisdom embodied in China’s polar construction projects, highlighting the scientific spirit of perseverance, exploration, and excellence demonstrated by research teams and generations of XAUAT faculty members and students. His engaging presentation was met with enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Following the lecture, Professor Liu presented copies of the textbook Introduction to Carbon Neutrality in Buildings, which he edited, to student representatives. He encouraged students to apply their knowledge in service of the nation and contribute their youthful energy to China's scientific and technological development strategies and major engineering projects.Student representatives then presented flowers to Professor Liu as a gesture of respect and appreciation for the contributions of scientists and researchers. The successful event represents another important initiative in XAUAT’s ongoing Expert Lecture Series for Secondary Schools. It has further strengthened connections between higher education institutions and secondary schools, providing a valuable platform for communication and collaboration. The University will continue to enhance partnerships with feeder schools, offering high-quality educational resources and science outreach programs to inspire young students and support their pursuit of academic excellence and future aspirations.
