On September 12, 2026, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) will celebrate the 130th anniversary of its academic heritage and the 70th anniversary of its merger. We extend our sincere gratitude and highest respect to all faculty, students, and staff, to our alumni at home and abroad, and to all sectors of society who have cared for and supported the development of our university.
Deep Roots and a Long History.
The history of XUAT dates back to the Imperial Tientsin University founded in 1895. In 1956, during the national restructuring of higher education institutions, the civil engineering and architecture departments of the Northeast Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Technology, and Southern Jiangsu Technical College were integrated to form this institution. It consolidated the essence of China’s earliest modern civil, architectural, and environmental disciplines. As one of the first undergraduate institutions of architecture in Northwest China and a member of the prestigious "Old Eight Schools" of Architecture, XAUAT is now jointly supported by Shaanxi Province, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Over the years, the university has forged the motto of “Striving for Self-Reliance, Practicing Diligence, Seeking the Source, Pioneering Innovation,”and upheld the ethos of “Integrity in Character, Solidity in Foundation, Pragmatism in Conduct, and Diligence in Work.”Adhering to the philosophy of “building the University through academic excellence and serving the nation through self-reliance,”we take pride in advancing architectural technology and building a better living environment. Rooted in the West, based in the industry, facing the nation, and looking to the world, XAUAT has established the most comprehensive "Architecture and Technology" discipline cluster in China and even globally. We have cultivated over 350,000 talented individuals for the nation and produced a wealth of high-level designs and scientific research achievements, making significant contributions to architectural technological innovation, human habitat construction, and materials metallurgy.
Advancing with the Times, Achievements Shining Bright.
Focusing on the "Double First-Class" Initiative and high-quality development, the University is comprehensively promoting a transformation centered on "Smart+, Green+, Healthy+, and International+."All operational indicators have seen remarkable growth. The disciplines of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering have achieved major breakthroughs, with Engineering becoming the first discipline from a provincial university in Shaanxi to enter the global top 1‰ of the ESI rankings. We have established the only National Key Laboratory in the field of green buildings. A large number of high-level research results have been applied to major national projects such as the South China Sea Islands, the domestic aircraft carrier, Hualong One (Nuclear Power), the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, and the hydropower project in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. We initiated the establishment of the "Silk Road International Alliance of Architectural and Technological University,”comprising 55 universities from 26 countries, further enhancing our international influence and reputation.
